A review on the trend of livestock breeds in Laos

When the livestock sector is considered an essential role in farmers' livelihood, and local breeds are still critical component of animal breeding Laos. Thus, there a need to review previous, current situation prospects for Laos' production. It aimed study different traits among existing dominant improved (cattle, pig, goat) more in-depth on sector's previous evolving prospects. Our findings revealed that general trend population Laos increased year-by-year over 45 years, except 1995 2000. was decreased by almost 22% due new national strategy economic revolution. The first foreign were introduced into Laos, i.e., Large White, Landrace, Duroc 1980, Red Sindhi bulls 1998, frozen semen Brahman 2003, Bach Thao goats between 2001 2003. Unfortunately, many data not precise introducing other like Boer goats, Thai Grey Brahman. There missing improvement including breeds' reproductive productive performance, which needs research. We conclude semi-complex farm operation should be applied improve their productions Laos.
